Small field, everyone meets everyone

Riverside Classic is a league night in its purest form: six players, one table group, fifteen matches, and no eliminations anywhere. Every player faces every other player exactly once, and the final standings — wins, game difference, head-to-head — decide the podium.

This is the format to copy when your field is small and the point of the evening is table time rather than a trophy ceremony. The sample shows a completed standings table with tiebreakers already applied.

How round robin works

In a round robin, everyone plays everyone exactly once (a double round robin does it twice, e.g. home and away). N teams produce N×(N−1)/2 matches arranged into N−1 rounds for even fields, and the standings table — wins, draws, goal or game difference, head-to-head — is the tournament's heart.

The catch is arithmetic: the match count grows quadratically, so 6 teams is a cozy 15 matches while 12 is already 66. That is why round robin is the format of small leagues and league nights, and why the format finder only recommends it when the venue hours truly fit.

FAQ

How many matches does a 6-team round robin have?

Exactly 15, played over 5 rounds. Each round one team rests if the field is odd — for 6 teams every round is full.

What tiebreakers should I set?

The common ladder is points, then head-to-head, then game/goal difference, then total scored. Set it before the first match so nobody argues about it after the last one.

Can round robin work for more than 12 teams?

Only with more time or courts — 14 teams mean 91 matches. Beyond ~12, switch to group stage + knockout or Swiss; both keep multi-game guarantees while staying schedulable.
