Divisions and sport categories
Run multiple brackets under one event banner, and what sport categories change.
Divisions
A division is a full scope of its own inside one tournament: its own roster, its own bracket, its own registration pool, and its own schedule. Use divisions when one event banner covers several brackets — an open and a women's draw, skill tiers (3.0/3.5/4.0), age groups, or console and PC in an esports night.
Behavior to know:
- Everything is per division — teams, matches, results, and registration entries are scoped; the same person can enter two divisions as two entries.
- Registration collects per division with its own quota and review queue.
- Scheduling gets division overrides (venues and windows) plus a combined master schedule across divisions.
- Divisions are configured at the event level; a tournament with no divisions behaves exactly like a single-bracket event always did.
Sport categories
At creation you can pick a category: basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, pickleball, esports, board games, or other.
Categories are deliberately lightweight — they tune form defaults and recommended settings only and never change engine behavior:
- Recommended formats per sport (e.g. pickleball: round robin or group stage + knockout).
- Recommended scoring presets (e.g. rally scoring to 11, win by 2 for pickleball).
- Sensible vocabulary on forms and pages.
If your sport is not listed, pick Other — nothing functional depends on the category.
